Contest Time

Well I finally got my birthday wish!Since I was younger I wished for snow on my birthday...growing up in the South made that wish nearly impossible, so I was hopeful when I moved to Pennsylvania 8 years ago that I would finally see snow on my birthday. Well I think the mild weather followed me because it took 8 years till it snowed....I have seen it sleet and ice, but no snow until now. True it was not a substantial amount, but still...it was snow!!! Plus two days later we got the first 'real snow' of the year...so I am in a happy place.

To celebrate my Winter Wish I am having a contest to win this snowy necklace

Necklace
To enter the contest leave a comment on the blog describing your best winter memory...extra points if it actually involves snow or ice! Also leave either your DeviantArt or Etsy site so I can get in touch with you....or your email address ^_- The Contest ends Thursday November 27th (yummm turkey day) at 10pm EST

Let the contest begin!!

I love that necklace. My favorite memory actually happened this last winter. We were able to take all 3 of our kids (11, 8, and 3) skiing and snowboarding for the first time all together. I had the 3 year old in a harness in front of me and he loved every second of it. He actually cried when it was time to go back to the cabin. Great time!

lovely necklace... and happy birthday... love snow... the best memory was once not too long ago was a huge huge snowstorm and me and my sister was outside our home and we noticed this poor guy was trying to dig his car out of 4 feet of snow. So what happened? Me and my sister went to get shovels and helped him dig his car out. After half an hour of huffing and puffing he was out. He thanked us profusely. My sister and I went to have some hot green tea and lunch. It was a good day...

Such a pretty necklace... The most beautiful thing I ever saw in winter was a freezing fog. This happens when the temperature is just right, so that there is still moisture in the air (the fog), but as soon as it touches the trees, it freezes. There was also a little bit of wind, so these tiny droplet froze making sideways icicles... A magical and ethereal site! This was in France, where I grew up.
Here's a picture of something like it!

My favourite winter memory was playing with my children in the snow here in Toronto last winter. We moved from England half way through the winter before, and it was extremely difficult dealing with that first winter. Last year we were more prepared though. One morning we woke to find knee high snow on the ground, the most snow I'd ever seen. We took the girls to the park and they had so much fun making snowmen and snow angels and having snowball fights. It was a shame it was so cold and we had leave so soon to get back to the warmth at home. Hopefully we can make some more great memories this winter!

hmm... i've got one that pops out at me from when i was a kid.

it was cold, but it had a bright sun. the sunshine bounced off the snow, which had melted a bit the previous day and refroze in the night. it had that crunchy shell on it, where you could walk for a bit and only sink a little bit.

obviously i was walking on it and ended up falling through. while i sat in my little hole, i started playing with the snow that was under that shell.

it glittered and danced in my little mittened hands. i'd hold it up and let these crystal bits fall, listening to the soft noise they made when they fell on each other and the crunchy snow.

my mum was out at this time, laughing at me for falling in, but i had to show her the snow. it was the best discovery i ever made! i held it up and told her that it shone like diamonds.

as a child, i've never seen a diamond, but i figured it was a shiny type of stone.
my mum, she left me in the snow a while longer.

I am really happy that you got snow on your birthday this year, that is really sweet!!
I remember i went with the family that i baby sat for to New York on a ski Trip. We stayed in a big beautiful House and although i was stuck with the baby while they all went skiing we all built a huge snowman at night time!
Also one time my neighbors made a huge dinosaur out of snow and we sprayed it with green food coloring water. It turned to ice and we were able to sit on its back and slide down his tail:)
